PDF to Word

Recover the words from a PDF so you can edit them, with paragraphs and page breaks kept in place.

Choose a PDFConverts text & handwritten PDFs into a real Word document with images.
Your file never leaves this device. Processing happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored.

Part of PDF Studio

This job also lives inside PDF Studio, alongside the other three everyday PDF tasks. Handy if you need more than one pass over the same document.

How to pdf to word

  1. Add a text-based PDF. If you cannot select text in a reader, it is a scan — use OCR first.
  2. Convert. Text is read page by page and paragraphs are rebuilt.
  3. Open in Word. Download the .doc and edit it anywhere.

Pull the text out of a PDF and download it as a .doc file you can open and edit in Word, Pages or Google Docs.

Frequently asked questions

Is the layout preserved?
Text, paragraph order and page breaks are kept. Multi-column layouts, tables and precise positioning are not rebuilt.
What about scanned PDFs?
A scan holds pictures, not text, so nothing comes out. Run OCR first, then paste that text into your document.
Why .doc and not .docx?
The .doc file produced here is a formatted document that Word, Pages, LibreOffice and Google Docs all open and edit normally. Save as .docx from there if you need it.
